Purpose :

Yagnopavit Sanskar is the rite of passage performed to make the boy learn the Vedas, understand things with his intelligence & activate his 3 activities of speech.


Key Puja Insights

Yagnopavit Sanskar is a traditional Hindu ritual or Sanskar performed when the boy enters the age of 8 years and is available only in Delhi NCR. The “sacred thread” plays an important role in this ritual, which is basically a thin cord composed of 3 cotton strands. Worn by Brahmins, Kshatriyas & Vaishyas, this sacred thread called ‘Janeu’ or ‘Yajnopaveetam’ is placed around the left shoulder of the boy.

What's Included

Available only in Delhi NCR, Yagnopavit Sanskar has the following procedure to be followed;

  1. A specific part of the head of the boy is shaved, given a bath & is dressed as an aesthetic.
  2. The father then initiates the boy to Gayatri Mantra with Agni dev as the witness, where both the father & the son are covered under the sacred cloth.
  3. The Palasha branch is given to the boy to guard Vedas.
  4. Lastly, the boy prays to Lord Sun to bless him with all the boons.

Devara Samaradhane: Along with preparing the traditional festive food & serving to guests, the family God is also worshipped.

Hoovilya: The mother of the vatu gives Mangala Dravya or the sacred items to the married women.

Naandi: To get the blessings of the ancestors, this ritual is performed by the Pandit.

Mathru Bhojana: For the last time the boy is fed by his mother, where both of them eat from the same plate.

Bhiksha: Here, the Vatu asks or begs for the Bhiksha or Alms by saying “Bhavati Bhiksham Dehi” or “Bhavan Bhikshamdidhatu” from his mother & other ladies.

Abhivadaye Namaskaram: Here, the boy introduces himself & seeks the blessings of the elders for his future.
