Anant Chaturdashi Significance

After being troubled by the stepmother, Sushila left her home with her husband Kaundinya and went to a jungle. They stopped at the river and Sushila’s husband went to take a bath. After his bath, Sushila went to take a bath and there she saw some women worshipping Lord Vishnu. One of the women explained the rituals and offered her sacred fruits as Prashad. After that, she started worshipping Lord Anant and within no time prosperity and happiness stepped into their lives until Kaundinya took off the strings of Ananta in his arms by raising a question of worshipping Lord Visnu.

Due to the mischiefs done by Kaundinya, poverty occurred in their life and he realized his mistake. To attain mercy for his mistake he went to the forest and asked all living beings if they had seen Ananta String. But none of the human beings helped him. He was disappointed with his sins and he hanged himself to a tree. Then, a brahmin stopped him and took him to the dark cave where a group of people presided by Lord Vishnu were worshipping Lord Vishnu. To that, Lord Vishnu told him to follow 14-year of a vow to get rid of his sin and attain well being in life.
