When is Holika Dahan in the year 2019?

Holika Dahan should be performed only during the Pradosh kaal that is after the sun sets. It should be performed on the Purnimasi tithi that prevails in the next half the Bhadra tithi. It is said that no auspicious work should be carried out during Bhadra tithi. In the year 2019, Holkika Dahan falls on the 20th of March.

Opting the right muhurat of Holika Dahan is of higher importance than choosing any other muhurat for other festivals. Choosing the wrong time for celebrating a festival will not give you the benefits of puja but performing Holika Dahan at an inappropriate time is sure to bring in grief and hardship.

The best time for Holika Dahan is the Purnimasi Tithi that comes after the Bhadra tithi. In case Bhadra tithi falls in the period of Pradosh but gets over before midnight then Holika Dahan should be carried out after the Bhadra is complete. However, if Bhadra tithi will be prevailing even after midnight then Holika Dahan has to be performed during Bhadra most importantly when Bhadra Punchha exists. Do remember that Holika Dahan must not be performed in Bhadra Mukha. If done so, it is believed to bring in bad luck for the entire year to the individual and also for the city and country as well.

There are situations when Bhadra Punchha does not fall between Pradosh and midnight, in this case Holika Dahan should be carried out in Pradosh. There also exists a certainity when neither Bhadra Punchha nor Pradosh tithi is available, in this condition one should accomplish Holika Dahan after the Pradosh.

The day of Holi which is also known as Dhulandi is celebrated on the next day of Holika Dahan and is on is on 21st of March this year i.e 2019.
