Lord Shani as we all know is the son of Surya Dev and Chaya Devi. It is mentioned in the holy scriptures that Lord Shani was a true devotee of Lord Shiva and thus he had the powers to punish the guilty and give fruits to individuals based on their deeds.

According to Vedic astrology, with the presence of Shani Dev in a favorable house, individuals will be blessed with a long and happy life. However, if Shani is in an unfavorable house then the natives will experience loss and suffering in all aspects of life.

Here are a few unknown facts about Lord Shani

Why Shani Devi is dark - According to the mythological scriptures, when Shani Dev was in his mother’s that is Chaya Devi’s womb, she was plating up for her husband in the scorching heat of Sun which turned her womb black and thus Shani Dev was born with a dark complexion.

Does Shani Dev limp? - As per the legends, Shani Dev was cursed to be lame by his stepmother for kicking her while she was feeding him. Therefore, it is said that Shani Dev moves slowly in the horoscope as compared to other planets.

Lord Shani is called the ‘god of righteousness’ - Shani Dev is known for being an ideal judge. He blesses or punishes people based on their karma. It is impossible to escape from his sight and he ensures that individuals get what they sow. So, he is called the god of righteousness.

Lord Hanuman’s devotees can be protected from the ill effects of Shani Dev - It is mentioned in the scriptures that Lord Hanuman saved Shani Dev from the clutches of the demon king Ravana. Hence, those who are true devotees of Bhajrangabali will never be affected by Shani Dev.

Another reason why Shani Dev does not harm the devotees of Lord Hanuman is, Pavan Putra Hanuman was a great follower of Surya Dev who was the father of Shani Dev. It is because of Hanumanji, the misunderstanding between Sun God and Shani Dev got rectified.

Lord Shani was a huge devotee of Lord Shiva - Shani Dev’s mother Chaya Devi was a dedicated devotee of Lord Shiva. When Shani Dev was in his mother’s womb, the puja and rituals performed by his mother and her devotion and dedication towards Lord Shiva passed onto Lord Shani and thus he became an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva.
