Important Facts

According to the Puranas, Diti gave birth to two highly powerful demons named Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha. Both of them grew up as big and powerful demons and began to perform intense worship to please Lord Brahma. As a reward, they asked for unlimited powers so that no one could defeat them. Lord Brahma granted a wish thereafter which they started harassing people to gain recognition in all the three worlds. Once both of them conquered the three worlds and then they put their eyes on the kingdom of Lord Varuna, known as 'Vibhari Nagari'. Varun Dev told him that Lord Vishnu is the protector and creator of this universe and you cannot defeat him. Furious with his words, Hiranyaksha went in search of the deity to defeat him.

Meanwhile, it was known to Devrishi Narad that Lord Vishnu was reborn as Lord Varaha to eliminate all kinds of evils. Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu saw the deity holding the earth with his teeth. When they saw Lord Vishnu, he started insulting them. Then Lord Vishnu defeated Hiranyaksha and killed him. Since that time, it is believed that worshiping Lord Varaha and fasting on Varaha Jayanti provides the observers with good fortune and eliminates all the bad things that are coming their way.
