Significance of performing Ekadashi Shradh

Pitru Paksha as we all know is the most favorable time to perform the Shradh Puja and offer Tarpan to our beloved ancestors. Remembering the good work they had done in their lifetime and showing our gratitude towards them is the main purpose of performing this puja. As stated in our Hindu Shastras, three generations of our ancestors reside in the Pitru Lok and the only way they survive is by the offering of Tarpan. Therefore by performing the Shradh Puja, we get blessed by our ancestors. The period between the Purnima of the Bhadrapada month until the Amavasya is reserved for performing the Shradh. This period is called the Pitru Paksha or it is also called as Mahalaya Paksha.

Ekadashi Shradh

Ekadashi Shradh is performed of the ancestors who died on the Ekadashi tithi. Every year, the Shradh ceremony is performed in the same month and same tithi when the soul departed. But, during Pitru Paksha, one has to only follow the tithi and not any month or paksha. Therefore, this period is regarded very auspicious to carry on the shradh ceremonies of the family members who had left for their heavenly abode.

Shradh performed during Pitru Paksha are believed to be very beneficial and make the ancestors happy and in return get their blessings. This year, Ekadashi shradh falls on 25th September 2019.

Why Pitru Paksha is regarded as auspicious

If any person has failed to pay rites to the ancestors or was not able to perform the shradh ceremonies of the ancestors regularly, it can be compensated by performing shradh on the respective tithis during Pitru Paksha. These are also called as Parvan Shraddhas and the right time for shradh ceremonies during this period are the Kutup Muhurt or Rohina Muhurt.
