It is believed that a person who performs 100 complete Yagyas will gain the capability and appropriateness to rule the earth as well as heaven. King Mahabali who was the biggest devotee of Lord Vishnu started performing 100 Yagyas in a desire to own earth and heaven. As he was considered an enormous danger for all gods, Lord Indra who was the king of Gods asked Lord Vishnu to stop King Mahabali from performing Yagyas.

Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Vamana and went to king Mahabali’s place where he was perming Yagyas. King Mahabali saw Vamana and he welcomed him with great honour and told him to ask anything as a wish. Vamana asked 3 pieces of land measured by his feet. King Mahabali agreed and asked to measure land with his feet wherever he wanted to measure. Soon, Vamana grew in a giant form and he covered the entire earth in his first feet, second feet covered the whole heaven. As there was no place to measure third feet, he asked king Malabali where he should measure his third feet.
