Purpose :

Ghatasthapana or Kalash establishment has special significance in Navratri. It is generally considered to be the first day of Navratri. Navratri is considered to begin from the day of Ghatasthapana. In Navratri, Pratipada or Prathama Tithi is performed in auspicious Muhurta with complete rituals. According to the scriptures, Kalash is named Lord Ganesha and for any worship, Ganesha is worshiped first in the Hindu religion. Therefore “Ghat” or Kalash Sthapana is performed at the beginning of In Navratri.

What's Included

On the first day of Navratri, that is on Pratipada bathe in the morning. After cleaning the temple, first, take the name of Lord Ganesh and then burn the unbroken flame in the name of Goddess Durga. For the establishment of Kalash, put soil in an earthen vessel and sow barley seeds in it. Now make a Swastika with a rolly on a copper pot. Tie Molly to the upper part of the Kalash. Now fill water in this Kalash and add a few drops of Ganga water to it. Then add one and a half rupees, coach, betel nut, perfume, and Akshat in it.

After this, apply five leaves of Ashoka or Mango in the Kalash. Now wrap a coconut with a red cloth and tie it to Molly. Then place the coconut on top of the Kalash. Now put this urn in the middle of the earthen vessel in which you have sown barley. With the establishment of the Kalash, it is resolved to keep the nine fasts of Navratri. If you want, along with the installation of the Kalash, you can also burn the unbroken flame of the mother's name.

The auspicious constellations for Ghatasthapana are as follows: Pushya, Uttaraphalguni, Uttarashadha, Uttarabhadrapada, Hasta, Revathi, Rohini, Ashwini, Moola, Shravan, Dhanishtha, and Punarvasu. It is believed that mother Durga can become angry by setting up at the wrong time. It is forbidden to set up the night at night and on the new moon day.
