Perform Aksharabhyasam ritual with Saraswati Puja on the eve of Vasant Panchami

Goddess Saraswati is the deity of knowledge and wisdom. Worshipping this divine form will vanish the darkness from your life and one can get enlightened by praying to this deity. One who is seeking Goddess Saraswati’s grace must keep himself/herself away from the desires of the materialistic world.

Goddess Saraswati is portrayed wearing white saree which is a symbol of purification. Seated on her carrier Swan, Goddess Saraswati holds a veena in two of her arms and four vedas which are the base for human life are held in other two arms.

As Saraswati is believed to bestow immense knowledge, people worship this deity not only at home but also in schools, colleges, and temples. According to the Vedic scriptures, Maa Saraswati was born on the auspicious day of Vasant Panchami which is also called Basant Panchami. Also, it is stated that Lord Brahma created this whole world on Vasant Panchami.

This propitious day is considered to be favourable to initiate new work or perform ceremonies like house warming, inauguration and so on. Also, on this day people start their kids’ education by performing Aksharabhyasam ritual that includes Saraswati Puja.

The procedure to perform Saraswati puja is as follows:

  • Firstly, the image or idol of Maa Saraswati is decorated in white clothes as this colour is the significance of purity.
  • Alongside the idol of Saraswati, books and other study materials must be placed.
  • Yellow and white flowers are offered to Maa Saraswati’s idol.
  • Turmeric and kumkum are applied to the idol and the ghee lamp is lit.
  • Before Saraswati puja one must perform Lord Ganesh puja seeking his blessings and protection from all the obstacles.
  • Further, Saraswati puja is performed by chanting the mantras and slokas of the deity.
  • The puja concludes by offering naivedyam to Goddess Saraswati.

It is also said that regular recitation of these mantras will improve memory, speech and concentration.
