Upang Lalita Vrat is carried out on the occasion of Lalita Panchami which arrives on the fifth day of Navratri. This ritual is completely dedicated to praising Goddess Lalita Devi. Goddess Lalita who is also known as Tripura Sundari and Shodashi is one of the greatest Mahavidhyas out of ten Mahavidhyas.

When is Upang Lalita Vrat actually celebrated?

As per the Gregorian Calendar, Upang Lalita Vrat 2020 falls on the 20th of October month. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Upang Lalita Vrat is observed on Panchami during the Shulka Paksha in the month of Ashwin.

Upang Lalita Vrat Significance

King Daksha had insulted his daughter Sati Devi’s husband for which Sati Devi jumped into the fire of Yagya which was organized by her father. To this, Lord Shiva ferried her body on his shoulder and he started performing Tandava. Lord Vishnu divided the body of Sati Devi into 108 parts with the help of Sudarshan Chakra to calm Lord Shiva. The Shaktipeethas were formed at the place where the body parts of Sati Devi landed. After this, Sati Devi arrived as Lingadharini, and then she was admired as Goddess Lalita.

It is believed that when Lord Brahma was wrecking the Patal Lok, the entire world was deluged into the water. All the sages prayed Goddess Lalita to save the world. Due to their holy prayer, Goddess Lalita appeared on the earth and saved the whole universe from eradication. As per the other mythological stories, in the evening of the Panchami Tithi, Goddess Lalita appeared to defeat Bhandha - a devil who was created from the ashes of Kamadeva.
