Known to be the ‘messenger of God’, Narada Muni is the divine messenger of the deities and the primary source of information. Also known as “Patrakar Divas”, Narada Jayanti 2020 falls on the first day or Pratipada Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the Vaishakh month. This birth anniversary of Narada Muni as per the Gregorian calendar is observed in the month of June or May.

Narada Jayanti Significance in brief

Famous for his utmost devotion, dedication, and respect towards Lord Vishnu, sage Narada or Dev Rishi Narad is the son of Lord Brahma. Appearing white in complexion, Narada Muni seems to extremely playful, mischievous & happy all the time. Observed to travel through all the three Lokas namely Aakash Loka, Patal Loka, and Prithvi Loka, Narada Muni carries Veena with himself to deliver the messages through his singing.

Possessing excellent knowledge of communication & language, and logical Narada Muni is said to be representing the present journalist. Some people also say that he is the one who initiates quarrels between the Gods and demons. Conducting various seminars and numerous workshops on this day, many people in the Northern region celebrate this day as the birthday of Dev Rishi Narad.

Many a time, Narada Jayanti falls exactly on the next day of the Buddha Jayanti or sometimes falls on the same day itself if the Pratipada Tithi gets skipped.

To worship Narada Muni you can either visit the temple located in Chigateri and Korva in Karnataka or at your home as well. Once you take bath before sunrise, get ready for the puja wearing clean and neat clothes.

Offer the holy Tusli leaves, Kumkum, incense sticks, sweets, fruits, flowers, and sandalwood to the idol of Lord Vishnu as Narada Muni himself is the ardent devotee of this deity.

Many devotees observe Vrat on this auspicious day by consuming only fruits & milk and avoiding cereals or lentils. The devotees are asked not to sleep during the night & instead spend this time in chanting mantras & “Vishnu Sahasranama”.

Once done with all the rituals & Aarti, visit Kashi Vishwanath if possible and perform donation of food, Dakshina, and clothes to Brahmin. Make sure that your concentration and devotion to the Narada Jayanti prayer benefits you with the blessings of the Supreme deity Lord Vishnu and Narada Muni.
