Ganesh Chaturthi- A wave of happiness, joy, wisdom and prosperity entering your homes

Lord Ganesh is known as “Vighnaharta”- The Remover of Obstacles is one of the most important gods in Hindu mythology. Every auspicious occasion or a ritual begins with the ‘Sukhakarta’ as he is considered to be the Lord of Good Fortune and Lord of Beginning as well.

Many devotees worship him to be blessed by success, good health, prosperity and safety from all the odds. Highly fond of sweets, Lord Ganesh who is the patron of arts & science, comes with a human body and the head of an elephant. Celebrated in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September) this 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh.

So let's understand how is the birth of Ganesh associated with Ganesh Chaturthi through the Ganesha story. The story says, once Parvati, the mother of Ganesh and wife of Lord Shiva had been to take bath, with some turmeric & sandalwood paste along with her. She then created a human out of the paste and infused life into it, of which a boy formed.

Accepting him as her own child, she instructed him to guard the main gates and not allow anyone to enter until she completes her bath. While the little boy was guarding the main door, Lord Shiva came back, whom Ganesh didn't know stopped him. On the other hand, Shiva too didn’t know the little boy was his son, where out of anger he beheaded the little boy.

As Parvati finished her bath and came out, she saw her son lying dead on the ground in a devastating state. Revealing the true identity of the little boy, she asked Shiva to bring back him to life. Known as “Bholenath” Lord Shiva realized his mistake, he fixed the elephant head to the body and brought back the life of the little boy. This is how Ganesha got Elephant head and Parvati getting happy knowing her son coming back to life.

Therefore, Lord Ganesha considered to be the figure of intelligence, happiness & wisdom, is worshipped in and outside India. This is the reason why is Ganesh Chaturthi celebrated with a different level of excitement, devotion, and is much loved by everyone.
