Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi is considered highly auspicious among all the Sankashti Chaturthis in Hindu religion. Lord Ganesha who is known as Vighnaharta which means remover of obstacles and Sukhakarta means the one who showers happiness into our life is worshipped by the Hindus on this sacred day asking the deity to redeem them from the problems of their lives.

When is Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi in 2020?

As per the Gregorian Calendar, Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi 2020 falls on the 8th of July month. As per the Hindu Calendar, Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated on full moon day during Krishna Paksha of each lunar month.

The plane of God Indra which was flying above King Shursena’s Kingdom had fallen down because a man who had done a lot of sins in his life had seen it from his sinful eyes. This plane could only start again only when the virtue of a person who has done Chaturthi Vrat would be given to Lord Indra.

But, no one had done Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi in Shursena’s Kingdom. At that time the Ganesha-Dutas were taking the dead body of a woman to Ganesh Loka. That woman had committed a lot of sins in her life but she was in sleep whole night and did not eat anything and she woke up at midnight and ate food after moonrise and she did this Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi unknowingly. The virtue of that woman was given to Lord Indra to start his plane again. This story tells that if a person does fasting on Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi will get a chance to go to Gana-Loka after death.

What to do on Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi

Devotees should wake up early in the morning and should wear clean clothes after taking a bath. Devotees should observe fast on this auspicious day and should do a Sankalp of completing the fast with honesty and devotion. Devotees performing this vrat should avoid eating food grains such as cereals, wheat, lentils, etc. However, one can consume fruits, milk, Sabudana khichadi.

The devotee should worship lord Ganesha with true devotion to Lord Ganesha by offering durvas and Jasmine flowers so that he will shower his blessing to them. Devotees should meditate and recite the powerful mantra “Om Gan Ganpataye Namah” to attain great results.
