Important Facts

Starting with the mandatory Lord Ganesha Puja, the other rituals of the Homam for housewarming are then carried out which include the following;

  1. Break the coconut: Placing on the threshold, this coconut is broken by the lady of the house outside the house to satisfy the Vastu deity.
  2. Kalash Puja: Once the coconut is broken, place the water-filled Kalash with a coin and nine types of grains.
  3. Place Coconut on Kalash: Then cover the Kalash with the red cloth and then place the mango leaves on top of the Kalash.
  4. Recite Mantras: On your behalf, the Pandit or the priests chant the mantras and Stotras asking the deity to shower his blessings on your family.
  5. Carry Kalash Pot Inside the House: Both the husband and the wife are then asked to carry this Kalash or the pot to the place it near the Havan.
  6. Cow & Calf Entry: Cow & calf are considered to be very auspicious in this ritual, hence just before the family members enter, the cow & calf are to be entered.
  7. Boil Milk: After the completion of the Puja, the lady of the house should boil the milk & allow it to spillover.
  8. Milk Offering: The same milk is to be offered to the members of the family deity & then to the members of the family.
  9. Stay Overnight: To take a note, the members of the family should not lock the house & stay overnight once you have offered food to the priests.
  10. Keep Diya Burning: To attract spiritual energies, prosperity & positive energies, you should light the Diya & keep it burning.
