Chant Chandra Mantra to protect yourself from the ill effects of Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse also called Chandra grahan is a celestial event wherein the earth, Sun and Moon come in a straight line. In this process, the Moon is positioned behind the earth hence Sun rays will not reach the moon and there would be a shadow of earth on the moon.

The eclipse can be total, partial or penumbral based on the place of the moon which would be behind the earth. Lunar eclipse usually occurs on a full moon day hence it is possible to have more than one lunar eclipse in a year.

Though eclipse is a truly mesmerizing event for researchers and scientists; in Hindu tradition people believe that eclipse is something to worry about. As harmful rays are emitted during eclipse, it is advised not to see the moon. Also, it is said that one must not eat or drink till the phase gets over.

If you have elderly people at home, you might have heard them asking pregnant women to be extra cautious during eclipse. Pregnant women are advised to stay indoors as the powerful rays emitted during eclipse might pose problems to the baby that is to be born.

According to astrologers, the impact of the eclipse can be good or bad depending on the influence of eclipse on each of the zodiacs. Hence, people whose zodiacs are under the negative influence of the eclipse perform various pujas, homams and other sacred rituals.

As per Vedic astrology, chanting mantras related to the Moon during Lunar eclipse is said to nullify the ill effects of grahan. Once the eclipse gets over, people purify their houses with holy Ganga water.

However, it is not completely true that eclipses always have negative effects. In fact, it is said in vedic astrology that prayers chanted during eclipse are immediately accepted and the person carrying out this ritual with complete trust and devotion will come out of all sorts of doshas and will also be free from the sins and curses.

Since Moon is a sign of calmness and purity, wearing a ring or a pendant made of silver or a pearl in it will help you in protecting yourself from the malefic effects of the Lunar eclipse.
