In Pavamana Homam, Kalasha filled with water is placed on the rice platform. The Pavamana Pancha Suktas are recited rigorously to invoke gods into the Kalasha. Also, donations in the form of ghee, milk, fruits, honey, clothes, etc are given to the pundits and Brahmanas attending the Homam.

The Pavamana mantras which are chanted during the Homam are mentioned in the ninth Mandala of Rigveda and there are around 7010 mantras. These mantras are also called Pavamana Pancha Suktas. The best time to perform Pavamana Homam is tithis like Ekadashi, full moon day/Purnima, Magha Amavasya, Saturdays or any other propitious days that suit one’s Janma Nakshatra.
