Worship Lord Shiva on Maha Shivratri for a happy and prosperous life

Lord Shiva is also called by various names such as Mahadev, Bholenath, Neelakanth, Gangadhara, Vishwanatha and so on. This divine source of energy who when worshipped whole-heartedly will bless you with all the comforts of life and will free you from the sufferings and sins of past life.

Regarded to be the destroyer of the evil spirits, Lord Shiva can be easily appeased with true devotion and belief. The auspicious day to worship Lord Shiva is Mondays and Thursdays however honouring Mahadev on the propitious eve of Maha Shivratri is believed to give you quick results for your prayers and you will be liberated from all sorts of pains & sins.

Fasting on the day of Mahashivratri is believed to be the most effective way of appeasing the deity. There are some people who fast without even having a drop of water the whole day but most people consume fruits and milk during fast.

However, devotees observing fast on this day are advised not to consume food items made of wheat and rice. Also, you are not supposed to abuse, harm or cheat anybody and offering food to the needy on this day will get you the blessings of the eternal form.

On the day of Mahashivratri devotees wake up early in the morning, clean their houses, take a bath and go to Shiva temples. On this day, one can see people waiting in long queues to get a glimpse of Lord Shiva or the Shiva Lingam and offer holy materials.

Chanting Shiva Panchakshari Mantra “Om Namah Shivay” and offering bel leaves and vibhuti to the idol of Lord Shiva or Shiva lingam will wash away the curses and sins.
