Ganapathi Homam can be performed on Sankashti Chaturthi, third day of Navaratri or Vinayaka Chaturthi. Samkashti Chaturthi falls on the 4th day of Krishna Paksha in every Lunar month. Vinayaka Chaturthi is the day when Lord Ganesha was born. Third day of Navratri is auspicious because demon Mahishasura was killed on this day by Goddess Durga.
