How is Kanya Pujan performed?

The completion of the auspicious festivities of Navratri comes with the ritual of Kanya Pujan (Worship of Girl Childs). Maa Durga is extremely pleased when young girls are worshipped as a representative of Herself. The ritual of Kanya Pujan is performed with utmost respect & devotion towards Maa Durga.

Out of the nine days of Navratri, Kanya Pujan is done on either Ashtami (8th Day) or the Navami (9th Day).

Follow the following procedure of Kanya Puja to impress Goddess Durga during Navratri


  • Firstly, invite 9 girls (of the age between 4-10 years) to your home.
  • After all of them have arrived, wash their feet with water.
  • Then make them sit in a row on a pedestal.
  • Then apply kumkum or tikka on their forehead and tie a Kalava on their hands while chanting the mantras of Goddess Durga.
  • After this, serve them with the bhog Prasad of Halwa, Puri, Chana or Chola Sabji and Kheer.
  • Once they are finished with their food, you must touch their feet to attain the blessings of Goddess Durga.
  • Then, present them with some new clothes or any sort of gifts to please them in the end.
