Important Facts

According to Vedic scriptures, Rahu is described to have a half-human and a half snake-like body. The reason behind this form of Rahu is Lord Vishnu. It is mentioned in the legends that Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini and collected the nectar which came out of the milky ocean.

It was being distributed among the devas so that they can be immortal however one of the demons sat in the same queue of devas and took a sip of the nectar. The demon was none other than Rahu. When Lord Vishnu came to know about it, he chopped Rahu’s head with Sudarshana Chakra. But, Rahu did not die completely as he had already consumed the nectar, his head had life so he paired his rest of the body with a snake.
