Varalakshmi Vrat is a holy festival celebrated to appease the deity of boons. Goddess Varalakshmi is a manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi who is the consort of Lord Vishnu. This ritual or festival is carried out by married women to worship the Goddess Varalakshmi and seek blessings as well as materialistic comforts. This auspicious festival is observed mainly in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh.

When is Varalakshmi Vrat?

As per the Gregorian Calendar, Varalakshmi Vrat 2020 falls on 31st of the July month. According to the Hindu calendar, Varalakshmi Vrat is observed on the second Friday or the Friday before the full moon day.

Varalakshmi Vrat Significance

There was a woman named Charumati who was living in a town called Kaundinyapur located in Magadha. Her dedication towards her husband and family impressed Goddess Lakshmi and she appeared in her dreams. Goddess Lakshmi told her to perform the truly effective Varalakshmi Vrat to fulfil all the wishes of life. She started worshipping Goddess Varalakshmi and other women of the town got inspiration from her and all the women

started doing this holy ritual.

Devotees who observe Varalakshmi Vrat with utmost faith and loyalty will surely see growth and improvements in all aspects of life. It is said that praising Goddess Varalakshmi on this sacred day is similar to the worshipping all the Astha Lakshmis, the eight manifestations of Goddess Lakshmi.

What to do on Varalakshmi Vrat

Wake up early in the morning and take a bath. As this Vrat is performed by married women they should observe fast on this day. Put a beautiful rangoli and place and sacred Kalash which is made up of silver, brass, copper. Fill the Kalash with rice and put the mango leaves and coconut on the top of Kalash. Decorate the Kalash with jewellery, clothes, and invoke Goddess Varalakshmi. Offer her fruits, food grains, dry fruits, and place currency notes, coins, and in front of her. Offer prayers with complete dedication to goddess Lakshmi.
