At one time Brahma-Vishnu came to Lord Shiva together with all the gods at Amarkantak. They killed the demon Andhakasura and sat in a quiet and comfortable trance. Upon praying in many ways, Shiva opened his eyes and honored the gods present. The Gods requested Lord Shiva to give freedom from sins as had committed many sins due to being engaged in devotional pleasures, killing many demons. Then a bright point fell on the earth from Shiva's beard and shortly after, she was transformed into a girl. The girl was named Narmada and was adorned with many boons.
