The major objective of Annaprashan Puja is to give the baby boy or baby girl a healthy and prosperous life.


Key Puja Insights

Annaprashan is the Sanskrit word which means rice feeding or grain initiation. In this ritual, for the first time, the baby is introduced to solid food other than mother’s milk, where very small quantities of Sweet Payasam or Rice are fed. The puja is available only in Delhi, NCR.

What's Included

Annaprashan Puja is available only in Delhi/NCR and is mainly performed when the child is 6 or 7 months old and the date for performing this puja will be suggested by expert pundits after analyzing the Janma Nakshatra, tithi, Rashi of the child. Collect the following Puja Samagri items to make the ritual successful.

  1. A bowl and spoon for Annaprashan are required. Using a silver spoon for the ritual works great.
  2. Sweet Kheer made of rice or Rava (suji).
  3. Honey.
  4. Ghee.
  5. Tulsi or Holy Basil Leaves.
  6. Holy Ganga Water.

Here are the following steps to perform the Puja:

  • Patra Pujan - Make a Swastika sign on all the utensils, offer grains, flowers & then pray.
  • Anna Sanskar - Put some Kheer in the bowl, add honey, ghee, basil leaves and some drops of Holy Ganga water and recite a few mantras as said by the Pundit. Now place this Kheer mix in front of the Lord to get it blessed. Then, begin the Havan procedure and complete with the Gayatri Mantra offerings.
  • Vishesh Ahuti - Once done with the above procedure, offer the first meal of the child to the Agni or the fire, which should be done five times by chanting mantras.
  • Kheer Prashan - After the completion of Vishesh Ahuti, feed the baby while reciting the given mantra for good health, mental stability & good character.
